Youth made itself heard with sincerity and humor. A Youth Meeting, during the first week, was based at the Museon, a museum near the Conference Center. Their catch-phrase was "Cool Down", symbolized by a sunglass wearing, sombreroed and perspiring penguin.

After having given their Report to COP6 President Jan Pronk, they spent the second week discussing their vision with some of the Delegates. By the middle of the second week, more and more were staging protests inside the Conference building, ranging from singing processions to Barbie dolls with their heads in a bowl of sand.
Since national delegations and NGO's were housed indiscriminately in offices close to the Press Room and main thoroughfare, the Youth groups made them all aware of their views. These could hardly be ignored, except by the most cynical, since the young will certainly not be able to ignore the environmental problems created for them.
Meanwhile, a group from all over Europe, the BET Team or “Betties”, set up a Betting Office. The “Bet” was with E.U. Commissioner Wallstrom that "If we all start taking responsibility and act right here and now and not wait for international steps to be taken we can cut down emissions".
