There is, for example, a prolonged rant against the UK. "You know," he begins, "I was on Question Time last week, and this Muslim guy says 'Britain has just become another feather in the American eagle'. That is the way you are viewed now. What the hell happened to ya?
"You've become a nation of slackers. You've all slacked off. It's a very lazy country. You've gone to the bland. You put everything in the machine and it all comes out as dishwater. You have dishwater politicians, dishwater television, the culture is dishwater. Seriously, what have you given us in the last 25 years? You gave the world all this great literature, music, inventions, a form of government, laws, common law, schooling, plumbing. What have you done, what have you done since the Sex Pistols?"
Well, I say, fully aware of how pathetic this sounds, we cloned a sheep.
"You cloned a f**king sheep!" he snorts with maximum disdain. "That's right. And you made the cows go mad. You've been out in the barnyard, out with the barnyard animals. That's about all you have to show for yourselves."
This is tough love. Moore doesn't hate Britain. He likes us (although he does worry about the state of our teeth, and has some rather partisan things to say about Northern Ireland, of which more later).
