On Wednesday, Rab Carson, who was gunned down alongside Gregg, was buried in Belfast. Emotions were running high within the UDA and in the early hours of Thursday around 100 UDA men and former Adair allies, keen to prove their loyalty to their new godfathers, entered Boundary Way on the Shankill Road, Adair’s home and heartland. Mass fighting broke out and shots were fired as the rival teams squared up beneath a huge loyalist mural bearing the motto Quis Separabit? (Latin for “who will separate us?”). Adair’s wife, once one of the most kowtowed-to women in Ulster, was manhandled out of her home. One former comrade of Adair’s shouted at her: “Get out to f***, you f***ing slut and take your bastard family with you.”

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Herald, White revealed for the first time what has been happening to the dissident loyalists on this side of the Irish Sea since their expulsion.

White is not only Adair’s closest ally, he is also a former UDA officer who served a lengthy prison sentence for his part in the brutal stabbings of SDLP senator Paddy Wilson and his girlfriend Irene Andrews in 1973. He later moved into the political realm of loyalism and became the chairman of the Ulster Democratic Party the political wing of the UDA.
