These stories, from history to our present days, should be a heavy weight on the shoulders of all Iraqis. Before we push the blame onto Saddam’s regime, or the US troops, or all the humanitarian organizations
“working” in Iraq today, we have to ask: Where are all the Iraqis who pass by these children in the street every day? Are we so mesmerized by our own troubles that we cannot see our own children?

We hope the answer to this question will not be the same answer that Fadi, a 6 year old street boy who never even had a chance to go to an orphanage, gave when he wrote Al-Muajaha a check on an open account signed with his favorite sentence: “I don’t know.”
