A small number of people are already leaving the mainland in anticipation of
escalated warfare. Popular destinations are Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, Hawai'i, and Costa Rica. War may stimulate more Americans to retreat to peaceful places, partly in shame for what the U.S. intends to do. War may draw more fire on the United States, which becomes increasingly vulnerable, because of the bellicose activities of our government.
The Foreign Press
Europeans and others overseas can have greater clarity than our citizens about what the U.S. government does in the world, because some of their presses are more diverse, free, and open. These days they often have vastly different perspectives on America; it is good to know rather than ignore the opinions of our allies.
I trust some of the foreign press more than the corporate U.S. media to objectively report and independently analyze the news. The views of foreigners are increasingly available, due to the internet. As the U.S.'s mainstream media becomes more restrictive, more consolidated, and less free, we simultaneously have greater access to the international press.
