Foreign military departments, specialising in biochemical war, willingly contributed to this research project. Amongst them, the United Kingdom, United States of America, Israel, Switzerland and France, but also Iraq and/or Libya appear to have been among the generous or coincidental collaborators. Despite their signatures being placed on numerous biochemical non-proliferation treaties and their embargo of the Apartheid regime... The Roodeplaat Laboratory had become a pharmacy of macabre specimens: Butolinum, Thallium, Anthrax, AIDS, Cholera, were stored in alarming quantities … A technology of death under the authority of one man, Dr. Basson, with one target, the Black population.

The activities of this doctor were only revealed in 1998, during very special hearings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It has been more than three years since he was acquitted, after giving a symbolic pledge before the Pretoria High Court of Justice. He had been accused of fiscal fraud against the state and wide-scale drug production. Besides this, he was only accused of murdering 60 victims plus attempted murders, amongst whom were well known public figures, such as former President Mandela, the Reverend Franck Chikane (currently advisor to President Mbeki). Testimonies given to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission indicate that it is reasonable to think that several thousand Blacks disappeared due to experimentation, or through political assassinations, master-minded at the laboratories which he directed.
