While the Dutch dallied, the next morning, Mladic himself began the evacuation by separating men and boys from the women. Some of the men and boys hiding in the forests were captured and brought together in a few locations, where they were killed between July 14and 17.

Defense Minister Joris Voorhoeve, however, didn't give Dutchbat the order to put the policy into practice, claiming safe departure of Dutchbat had first priority.
Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister van Mierlo advocated that “Dutchbat” shouldn't leave Srebrenica, until the safety of all the Muslim inhabitants was assured. He also tried to mobilise international support.
