But in Washington, Mr. Tenet struck back at Governor Dean, noting that the Democratic candidate's name was "strikingly similar" to that of so-called shock-jock Howard Stern.

"Mr. Dean's latest comments offer the most persuasive proof to date that he and Howard Stern are working in concert," Mr. Tenet said.
