Orwell Rolls in His Grave, commentary by Tina Staik

The ownership of media worldwide by a few corporations - the same cabal that profits from oil and war - is an outrage and crime. It must be exposed and addressed with passion and fervor, not just in U.S. Since the ability to control “truth” is key is to establishing the totalitarian rule that Orwell describes in 1984, we must recognize and educate ourselves as to the dangers. The below documentary is very informative, a must see, publish - not just for Americans. http://www.orwellrollsinhisgrave.com/home.htm

Recall that the aim of “newspeak”, according to Orwell in “1984”, was to achieve public control to the point that people would not be able to associate any wrong doing with their rulers. In a nut shell, this may explain the overall effect of “news” in the last 4 years, where one blatant crime after another surfaces, THEN disappears. This has produced a series of discoveries in which trusting people's hopes rise (that something will be done to stop the crimes and treason, since normally the press would follow through with discovery, accountability, etc.

In his book “1984” George Orwell referred to this as “newspeak”, a twisting of linguistic meanings in the public mind, so as to produce a mass state of consciousness in which the “masses” would come to “accept” that, since no crimes could be pinned on their rulers that would “stick”, eventually the “masses” would not be able to even associate rulers with any crimes!

A glimpse at Sparknotes' study guide on Orwell's “1984” can be quite revealing, providing that:

One considers most ideological labels in the last century - to include Communism, Socialism, Fascism, Capitalism, Democracy, republic, Christianity, Judaism, Islam--have been seriously disfigured to mean what is in the interests of an oligarchic few (whose stated mission to rule the world is no myth, according to their own recent writings). In other words, Orwell limits readers “fears” to Communism, and by doing so, wittingly or unwittingly, permitted the spread of Totalitarianism, in the form of corporate-military-world-rule around the world, under every possible label, to go unnoticed. (Lenin himself proclaimed the best way to control the opposition was to become the opposition.)

In particular, the Sparknotes' sections on “Themes, Motifs, and Symbols” and “Newspeak”, gives us another perspective from which to critically examine the possibility that, in fact, international political agendas in the last century, and particularly since WWII, have been centrally coordinated.

Consider, for example, how often this last century Russia and China were portrayed as feared and dangerous “enemies” and then, as if by magic, “switched” to being loyal allies to battle other “enemies” together.

In all cases, the question should be, who benefits, gets wealthy, grabs more power when “fearless leaders” are given power to “protect”? In President Eisenhower's words, the “military-industrial complex”. And...who gets robbed of their belongings, homes, civil and human rights? The vast majority of innocent people, seeking to make life meaningful, build families, raise their children to in turn contribute to building stronger communities and a socially just earth.

In the words of Hitler, “Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way around, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise.”-(Mein Kampf, 1923)

Is it a coincidence that both the most feared “enemy” states - Russia and Germany - had much in common with the “good-guy” states - Britain and U.S. - in that they are centers of White aristocracies and dynasties (U.S. dynasties, i.e., Bushes are kept hidden). Who literally carved, created and financially supported the new “enemy” states, i.e., Iraq and Israel, depending on what “side” you are on? Who sustains the very existence of Israel, the only nation outside the “inner circle” that seems to have rights to sovereign rule, self-determinism (while other nations face the possibility of a CIA coup...)?

The debate over bringing “democracy” and “elections” to Iraq, for example, would not be possible if it were not corporate-owned-media sponsored. The debate is absurd, is it not, in face of the criminal corporate control over our elections, law making and top positions in government?

The patterns should be evident. Force and murder consistently justified by U.S., Russia, Israel, in retaliation, always 4 to 20 times the rate. The use of TRAINED agitators embedded in target groups to justify force and annihilation has been systematically used at least since early 1900s to break up labor unions. The FBI's COINTELPRO continued these efforts to break up the civil rights movement, even going so far as infiltrating churches.

There can be NO justification of this murder and killing, placing people in concentration camps behind walls, breaking and entering into their homes, taking away innocents, including children, to be put in prisons where they are abused and tormented.

These are crimes, and when we discover what is going on, we will likely find the current cabal, being ever more sophisticated, has outdone its fascist predecessors.

Laws made by criminals are crimes. Laws that permit the oppression of citizens in favor of corporate profits and slave labor are crimes. These cover-ups would not be possible, apart from organized money in control of defining what is and is not a “crime.”

Corporate rule is fascism. Truth be told, people are outraged, as they should be, when atrocities, genocide, bribing, militarism and oligarchic rule by an international cabal are casually dismissed, reframed as “necessary” for “national security”, or disguised as “democracy” in the U.S., Russia, Israel, China, or Iraq. People should be angry and demand an end to cover ups of crimes as “mistaken policies”! What is happening in Afghanistan and Iraq are NOT mistaken policies, rather very calculated crimes. (Note the U.S. trained Taliban are back in Afghanistan; and U.S.-trained Baath are back in Iraq.)

The documentary below is a must see. The manipulation of ideological labels to divide and conquer in the last century must be exposed and with appropriate outrage, condemned and put to an end. For this to happen, people around the world must be educated. What is happening in EACH nation is likely connected to an international network. Oligarchic rule has always required “enemies” and perpetual war to survive. George Orwell well describes the strategic shifts in labeling a nation, once an ally, an “enemy”.

Director Robert Kane Pappas' ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE is the consummate critical examination of the Fourth Estate, once the bastion of American democracy. Asking whether America has entered an Orwellian world of doublespeak where outright lies can pass for the truth, Pappas explores what the media doesn't like to talk about: itself.

Meticulously tracing the process by which media has distorted and often dismissed actual news events, Pappas presents a riveting and eloquent mix of media professionals and leading intellectual voices on the media.

Among the cast of characters in ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE are Charles Lewis, director of the Center for Public Integrity, Vincent Bugliosi, former L.A. prosecutor and legal scholar, film director and author Michael Moore, Rep. Bernie Sanders, Danny Schecter, author and former producer for ABC and CNN, and Tony Benn, former member of the British Parliament.

ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE provides a vital forum for ideas that will never be heard in mainstream media.

From Globalvision's Danny Schecter: “We falsely think of our country as a democracy when it has evolved into a mediacracy where a media that is supposed to check political abuse is part of the political abuse.”

New York University media professor Mark Crispin Miller says, “These commercial entities now vie with the government for control over our lives. They are not a healthy counterweight to government. Goebbels said that what you want in a media system he meant the Nazi media system - is to present the ostensible diversity that conceals an actual uniformity.”

From the very size of the media monopolies and how they got that way to who decides what gets on the air and what doesn't, ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE moves through a troubling list of questions and news stories that go unanswered and unreported in the mainstream media. Are Americans being given the information a democracy needs to survive or have they been electronically lobotomized? Has the frenzy for media consolidation led to a dangerous irony where in an era of more news sources the majority of the population has actually become less informed?

ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE reminds us that 1984 is no longer a date in the
future.

Orwell Rolls in His Grave
By RONNIE SCHEIB

“A marvel of passionate succinctness, Robert Kane Pappas' docu critically examines the Fourth Estate, once the bastion of American democracy. Docu asks, “Could a media system, controlled by a few global corporations with the ability to overwhelm all competing voices, be able to turn lies into truth?”

“Orwell Rolls in His Grave” refrains from preaching to the choir but if its biting analysis proves true, film is unlikely to ever be presented to the general public. Indie arthouse and cable venues therefore beckon. Pic meticulously traces the process by which black may be turned into white, with frequent references totalitarian states both fictional and real --Orwell's “1984” competes with Goebbels' theories on propaganda and blatant examples of Soviet revisionism for pride of place... Helmer Pappas (director of the fiction features “Now I Know”, and “Some Fish Can Fly”) forsakes all pretense of presenting both sides, since presumably the other side is promoted daily by radio, television and the press. Pappas offers like-minded journalists, media watchdogs, scholars and legislators who voice their deep concerns about the health of democracy in America...

Pic largely relies on talking heads, but the conviction and punch of the interviewees' commentary, leavened with pertinent excerpts from a lively Michael Moore speaking engagement, never becomes tedious. Graphs showing the income of the middle-class lamely flatlining while that of the upper-class climbs off the page are accompanied with shocking government figures of a 9% increase in middle-class income verses a 140% increase at the top..
