Iraq War 'Illegal', states U.N. Secretary-General

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan has commented that the Iraq War is “illegal” and as a result, the war’s proponents have reacted with outrage.

The “U.N. OBSERVER” has been saying this for over eighteen months – as have many millions of people, all over the world.

The fact remains that the only authoritative source for an accurate legal Opinion and/or Judgement is the International Court of Justice, in The Hague. That is one of the reasons it was established, as an integral part of the United Nations, after the Second World War.

The leaders of the world – at that time – realised that if we were to leave such decisions to individual nations, there would always be War, for no nation has ever attacked another nation believing it was in the wrong. Nationalism can always justify aggression.

Perhaps, now is the time for the U.N. General Assembly to request an Advisory Opinion from the World Court.

Perhaps, it is also time for some of the U.N. Member-States - that are directly affected by the Iraq War - to bring an actual Case before the Court – but that would be too much to ask.

No one dares challenge the authority of the United States.

We commend Kofi Annan’s courage !
