Author and environmentalist Bill McKibben, a United Methodist Sunday school teacher, told fifty people gathered at the Maine capitol that global warming will devastate New England, where the climate will feel like Georgia's and the maple sugar industry will be destroyed.

Over 1000 New Englanders, including 330 clergy, have signed an Interfaith Call for Climate Action, asking their governors to meet or exceed the goals of the regional Climate Change Action Plan. Each state is expected to release its own plan by August, when the governors will reconvene in Quebec City with the premiers of the eastern Canadian provinces, who also approved the regional plan.

Outside the State House in Hartford, CT, Rev. Susan Veronica Rak of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport rang a Tibetan singing bowl and read from the Psalms. In Concord, NH, 11-year-old Emma WestRasmus held listeners rapt as she sang "Turn the World Around."

In Providence, RI, Rev. Amy Freedman of Channing Memorial Church led a prayer circle around the United Nations flag. And in Montpelier, VT, an interfaith delegation delivering the Call for Climate Action serenaded Gov. Howard Dean's staff in his office lobby.
