- many indigenous participants in the Bank's last round of "consultations" condemned the meetings for their lack of effective and informed participation and have called for further meaningful consultation on the policy revision

Despite these serious criticisms and concerns, the World Bank plans to steamroll the policy through in June 2002 without further public comment !

This is yet another slap in the face for popular movements who have conistently made sound recommendations for improved development standards and practice (remember the flawed policy on resettlement last year that as adopted despite widespread international protests against its adoption).
