Estimates of the slave population in the Sudan are as high as 100,000 and there is ample evidence to show that they are being sold into several parts of the country. Most of those enslaved come from the provinces of Western Kordufan and Southern Darfur.

U.S. Congressional leaders of both Republican and Democratic Parties sent a letter to the Senate Leaders Tom Daschle (Democrat)and Trent Lott (Republican), urging them to act on the Sudan Peace Act, which will place greater restrictions on investment in the Sudan.
"Without consideration of the capital markets provision in the Sudan Peace Act, the Goverment of Sudan will continue to pay for oil wtih the blood of its people."
