The desire by the mainstream UDA to exact revenge will not be abated by the verbal pot-shots that the dissidents are now firing at the Belfast leadership. White has appeared to hint that there may be more violence to come. “People will be back,” he said. “The leadership will not be in power for very long.” He went on to claim that the current loyalist leadership had “led the UDA into the gutter”. One of the other exiles made an anonymous phone call to Ulster Television describing the current UDA leaders as “criminals”. In a barely veiled allusion to the Gregg murder, the exile caller added: “We have shown how capable we are of what we can do and we will do it again.”

The UDA as White knows full well is not the type of organisation that takes insults and threats lightly. They aren’t a political party, they’re terrorists and anyone who insults them usually ends up dead. “White is playing a very dangerous game,” one loyalist said. “He seems to be baiting the leadership to take him out. They might just take him up on his offer sometime soon.”
