WWF is pleased to announce the inauguration of a new "Global Chemicals Conventions" page on our WWF website, featuring treaty ratification news from around the world. To access the site, visit: http://www.panda.org/toxics/ratify/ or visit the LINKS section of the “U.N. OBSERVER” website.
In the countdown to the World Summit on Sustainable Development, WWF created this site to help promote ratifications of the POPs treaty and related chemicals treaties, prior to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), enabling Heads-of-State and their Ministers to announce their ratifications at that high-visibility summit on the future of the earth.
The site is designed to transmit updates as well as background information on the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and three other chemicals-related conventions:
the Rotterdam Convention on prior informed consent (PIC) for trade in hazardous chemicals and pesticides;
the Basel Convention and its 1995 Ban Amendment; and
the 1996 Protocol to the London Convention on ocean dumping.
