The basic principles of “Privacy” and “National Sovereignty” continue to be jeopardised in both the United States and the European Union.
U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft is proposing measures which will extend the powers to the Bush Administration, not only over American but also European citizens.
The Bush Administration is now demanding that all E.U. countries provide detailed passenger lists for all passenger transport entering the U.S.A.
This contravenes the E.U. “Data Protection Act, since the United States has no similar legislation for its own citizens. Passengers’ personal data could be passed to other organisations in the USA, for surveillance purposes and also might be exchanged with other countries, outside the European Union.
The European Commission is already taking legal action against several Member-States for ignoring European Law and signing non-reciprocal agreements with the U.S. which will allow U.S. Customs Agents – now part of “Homeland Security” – to operate in Europe.
