The Kichwa Sarayacu community of the Ecuadorian Amazon urgently needs your letter of support. In spite of an order from Ecuador's consitutional court, workers for the CGC/ChevronTexaco oil consortium are entering Sarayacu territory to conduct seismic tests (detonations of explosives). Sarayacu, which has title to its territory, has declared its firm opposition to oil explorations.
The company is employing armed guards to intimidate the people, who have formed "camps of peace and life" to protect their borders.
The situation is quite urgent. Please write a letter/fax to Ecuador's new president on behalf of the Sarayacu people, and send a copy to the CEO of ChevronTexaco. Thank you very much. - Paula Palmer
