Columbine Harvester, by Peter Ross

Article image He believes that on September 11, 2001, America reaped what it had sown. Now with his provocative new film,
"Bowling For Columbine", Michael Moore is taking aim at gun culture. And saving plenty of ammo for Britain, writes Peter Ross
"I don't know how Osama bin Laden convinced 19 people to fly into a building. If it was for some hereafter business, they were being seriously misled. Let me tell you about Osama. I don't view him as an Islamic terrorist. I don't see him as some leader of oppressed peoples going after the Great Satan. This man is a multi-millionaire, a rich man. That's how I look at it. A rich man used 19 other, younger people to murder 3000 people. Now to pull off something like that, you do need something big like religion to scam people."
"Bowling For Columbine" is a well-intended wake-up call. "I think this film is a warning," says. "t's a warning to other countries not to go down the American road."

There is an innate British ethic, he says, which is a feeling of collective responsibility for the sick and poor. Whereas the American ethic is "F**k you! Pull yourself up by your bootstraps! Every man for himself! Me me me me me. That's the American ethic, okay? That's the dark side of our soul. And what has it got us? 11,000 gun murders a year."
