It may be ignorance. It may be arrogance – but it ain’t International Law, by Paul V. Rafferty

Article image The Hague: U.S. President George W. Bush claims that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and that Saddam Hussein is therefore in violation of U.N. Security Council Resolutions. President Bush has not presented any evidence to support these claims.
Today, President Bush signed into U.S. Law the Congressional Act granting him “authority” to do whatever he likes regarding Iraq.

Now, he is seeking to legitimise his desire for a “pre-emptive strike” against Iraq, the ouster of President Saddam Hussein and the installation of a puppet regime.

The Security Council is now debating the issue.
Several months ago, the Arab League welcomed Iraq back into the fold after the unsuccessful invasion of Kuwait and advises that an attack on Iraq will bring “Hell” to the middle East. Kuwait has also re-established relations with Iraq. Iran also cautions against an attack on Iraq even though Iran sufferred far more than Kuwait, during the Iran-Iraq War, when Iraq attacked Iran – with the endorsement of the United States, which supplied Saddam Hussein with the necessary components for the chemical weapons used upon Iran.
