Clashes Renewed Between the Palestinian Police and Hamas in Gaza

Confrontations were renewed on Tuesday between the Palestinian police and members of the Hamas movement in Gaza, despite the call made by the PLO to forbid internal fighting, Arabic News reports.

On Monday, four persons were killed following the killing of a colonel in the Palestinian police by members of Hamas. During a funeral held for two Hamas members killed on Monday in Gaza, several members threw stones at the complex of the Palestinian security in Gaza. One of the demonstrators threw a locally made bomb at the same complex but there were no casualties.

An eyewitness said that the "demonstrators also destroyed a car for traffic police in the area."

A truce was reached between the two sides on Tuesday, stating that Hamas members should stop demonstrations and the police should leave the part of Gaza which they had entered following the riots.

An official in the Palestinian police, Mahmoud Asfour said that the police are searching for 10 to 15 suspects who live in al-Nseirat camp and called for their surrender.
