Israel/Palestine: Olive Harvesters Attacked

Article image In a small remote village Izzbit Salma located south of Qalqilya within the Nablus areas, Palestinian villagers started their olive harvesting, 1 week early in hopes of escaping violent confrontations with Israeli Occupation Forces and Israeli colonists.
Unluckily, their early jump start in harvesting did not stop the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from cutting down olive trees, harvested by the locals and did not stop them from severly beating those defending their livelihood.

Olive harvesting is the symbol of the Palestinian homeland and it is through the olives that many of those indigenous to the country of Palestine put food on the table.

Many Palestinian landowners in Izzbit Salma have had their lands and homes stolen by the Israeli governemt to make way for new colonies and new Israeli roadways.
Today, Israeli hired contractors watched over by the Israeli Occupation Forces began the bulldozing of these stolen lands.

ISM (International Solidarity Movement) activists accompanied Palestinian farmers and landowners to these sites to try to stop the destruction of their properties. The ISM activists and Palestinians who stood in front of these bulldozers were severly beaten by the contractors; IOF did nothing to stop these brutal attacks. A press cameraman who recorded and witnessed these attacks, along with three other people recording the event, had his camera confiscated and destroyed.
