Article image They have lived in and around Jerusalem for more than 6,000 years, long before King David first made it his capital. They have been known as tribes of ancient Egypt, Cananites, Amorites, Moabites, Jebusites, Philistines, Phoenicians and Palestinians.
Their roots branch out into the cultural soil of the entire Middle East and North Africa.

Many have been Christians since their ancestors first heard the teachings of Christ - in his own words. They have tried to live according to these teachings for nearly 2,000 years. Their ancestors were among the first “Fathers of the Church”, providing the foundation for a Faith that has become world-wide.

They have never formed their own sovereign nation.
Even when the European Crusader States existed during the Middle Ages, they were ruled by others. In fact, they stood with their Muslim and Jewish neighbors against that expression of Western colonialism.

Over the centuries, they have joined the various official groupings – Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Protestant – but they have also maintained their own ways and knowledge. They are the “Mother Church”, direct descendants of the first Christians - the "Living Stones" of a universal Faith.
