The Eco-Balance of Palm Oil
Findings of a WWF Study

The discussion on the stationary and mobile energetic use of plant oil is on the rise, as well as the discussion on imported palm oil. A study of the WWF, in which researchers of the Wuppertal Institute participated, explores the eco-balance of palm oil for the first time. If oil palms are cultivated on plantations which are layed out on already cleared but fallow land, so that the valuable rain forest does not have to give way to new plantations, the eco-balance as a whole is positive.

Additional actions are needed on the level of the Member States as well as on the European level in order to ensure that adequate funds for nuclear decommissioning and waste management are available when necessary. Furthermore, transparency should be increased by information sharing and reporting. These are the results of a comprehensive assessment of the different decommissioning financing regimes in the European Union by the Wuppertal Institute and its partners on behalf of the European Commission. Documentation of the Second German-Japanese Workshop online

On 31 January and 1 February 2007 the Berlin Office of the Wuppertal Institute organized the Second German-Japanese Workshop on Economic Instruments together with the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) from Japan. It was co-financed by the Environment Ministries and a follow-up to a first conference and workshop that took place by the end of 2005 in Tokyo, Japan. Please note that you can find the contributions and the documentation at the project website:
