The deeply ingrained American belief that all problems can ultimately be solved with a gun struck home again, Monday morning.
The sympathies of everyone are with the parents and other relatives of the victims of another example of insanity.
Sadly, this insanity is characteristic of American culture, per se, where Hollywood promotes the man of violence in its films and the computer industry produces inter-active games where the young can shoot whomever they like with impunity.
Small wonder that some people go on shooting rampages. Just like the computer games – only more exciting.
The sickness – and its cure - lies at the very core of American “culture”. From the War of Independence, through the War Between the States, the Indian and Mexican Wars, the Spanish-American Wars, two World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Granada, Panama, Chile, Haiti, Afghanistan, the ongoing Middle East turmoil and so many others, whenever a problem arose, the American solution has always been THE GUN.
Small wonder that shootings occur. Sadly, there will be others, until the American people stop buying into the myth that violence solves problems. Violence is THE problem – and sadly, it’s the American way of Life – and Death.
Again, our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.
