The Indigenous women of the African Indigenous Women Organization, Indigenous Environmental Network, Indigenous Women’s Network and other Indigenous women have scheduled a Water
Ceremony for Friday, 30 August, 2002, 1-4 pm, Ubuntu Village, at the Sacred Site, a Healing Circle for the Earth. This Water Ceremony is open to all Indigenous Peoples, all World Summit participants, men, youth, elders, NGO’s and governmental delegates.

All people coming to Johannesburg are being invited to bring a small sample of water from their homeland that will be shared in this ceremony. This water could come from your well, your water faucet, river, lake, ocean and other water sources.
For the pastoral Indigenous women of Africa, milk is a precious source related to water. However, these women cannot carry milk easily from their lands, so they will do what they can, and will be invited to bring water.

It is recognized that women from each region have ceremonies that differ from one community to another community. This will be recognized. The local host will be Indigenous women of South Africa, with support from other Indigenous women from other regions.
