Divine Strake: Here We Go, Again! + UPDATES

Article image The coalition that came together in the Spring of 2006, to fight the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) plans to detonate a “bomb” has again joined hands for Divine Strake, Part II.
In typical fashion the agency in collusion with the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Site Office (NNSA/NSO) made the announcement that they had completed a “revised” Environmental Assessment (EA) right in the middle of the holiday season and are ready to “drop the bomb”. And, today we find out, that in their rush to get this document out at a time when we would be focusing on other things they neglected to include 10 pages of data. Oooops!
In the last days of his administration, Governor Kenny Guinn formally requested a full scale Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) stating that the EA was not sufficient. Ignoring the Governor, they seem to be going full steam ahead in trying to complete this test. We ask what is the rush? Senator Pete Domenici of New Mexico said they couldn’t possibly do it at White Sands, NM, because of the necessity to do a full EIS, which could take several years. If that is good enough for New Mexico then it is good enough for Nevada and our neighbors, at risk of again facing the risk of dangerous fallout.
