The Secretary-General of Amnesty International, Irene Khan, is currently touring Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, as part of a mission to the Near East to discuss the current human rights situation. On Thursday, 7 December, Ms Khan was in Israel, meeting with members of the Israeli government. She is reported as having expressed, in their presence, her condemnation of the United Nations' bias towards Israel.
Sunday, 10 December, is International Human Rights Day 2006 and she will spend the day with many Human Rights organisations' representatives in Jerusalem. It is reported that she will also meet with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the head of the U.N/ Human Rights Council's fact-finding mission to Beit Hanoun
