Spokesman for the government, Dr Ghazi Hamad said that the ceasefire has been agreed upon by all Palestinian factions.
The spokesman added that it will not be allowed by any party to violate the agreement, as the Palestinians have agreed unanimously on it, "They all said in loud and clear voice, that they are committed to the truce, and will not violate it."
He added that any Israeli infringement will be dealt with collectively, as "together, Palestinians will study any response for that scenario, in order not to have any division or to have one party or one side responsible for the response, the factions will take a decision together in this regard."
In a meeting that was held yesterday Hamad stressed that all the factions will participate in this truce and added. "We are interested to have the truce succeed; the decision was taken for the sake of the national interest, not because we are weak; it reflects the united position of the factions and reflects the wisdom of the factions and that they do care for the national interest and the interests of the people."
Regarding the guarantees, Hamad said, "The president spoke with Olmert about that, and he was told that the Israeli side is ready to give the needed guarantees." Dr Hamad added that the factions will be monitoring Israeli commitment to the truce.
Speaking of the aftermath of the truce, he said: "This agreement will secure the positive atmosphere; it will help in the formation of the new government and it might help in solving the issue of the Israeli soldier." He concluded, "We hope that the deal will succeed, so we can solve other issues related to the Palestinian issue in general."
In another development, the Israeli side violated the truce Monday morning after the Israeli army killed 2 Palestinians and arrested dozens of residents in the West Bank city of Jenin
The spokesmen of the Palestinian military factions asserted that they will resume attacks on Israel if the truce does not include the West Bank.
Palestinians welcome the truce (Hudna), especially people of Beit Hanoun and Jabalia, but others see it as another Israeli deception.
Sameh Nour, a Palestinian man who lost his house during the latest incursion to Beit Hanoun has said, "The Israelis have never been committed to any truce. We hope they are honest this time and be committed to their words; we want to live in peace and have our own independent state with east Jerusalem as its capital'
"The Israelis must change their aggressive ideas; they have to know that the root problem of this conflict is the illegal occupation to our Palestinian lands. Its simple; just end the occupation and we will accept to live side by side; is it not enough that 1,000's of pedestrians have been killed and slaughtered like sheep defending their country, and then they made propaganda worldwide about the Israeli soldier who was captured from the battle field while we have more than 10,000 Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails, most of them civilians who were taken from their houses, not from the battle field."
Nidal Radi, 38, a Gazan teacher has said, "I'm optimistic that both sides will resume the peace process but peace will not prevail unless millions of Palestinian refugees who scattered around the world be retuned back to their houses. They were forced to flee their houses during the Israeli invasion and occupation of Palestine." He added: "A Jew who was just born in New York, for instance, will have the right to live in Israel, 'occupied Palestine', and will be granted an Israeli citizenship, on his or her arrival, while the original residents, the Palestinians are not allowed to return back.
13,000 Men Take Up Position to Enforce Ceasefire
Gaza
The Palestinian commander in chief of Palestinian security forces has said that almost 13,000 men are to be deployed along the confrontation lines, starting at 1.30pm Sunday (yesterday). This deployment will start from the Kerem Shalom area up to the Sodaniya area in the north of the Gaza Strip.
General Jamal Kayed said that the deployment will be in accordance with the president's orders, and the general leader of the Palestinian national forces, General Suleiman Hillis, in order to implement the ceasefire agreement.
The general clarified that a meeting for all bodies of the security forces, including the Force 17, the military police and others, has been held, and that a case of higher alert was announced within these bodies.
General Kayed confirmed that the security forces deployed will be operating under three leaders, and that these forces will exchange positions with Israelis who were holding key locations, before the truce was announced. He also stressed that the forces will prevent the projectile launching at Israeli towns and outposts. "Anyone who attempts to launch projectiles or infiltrate Israel will be arrested. These people will be looked at as standing against the Palestinian national unity. Even as Palestinian nationals, they will be prevented in any way, even by force."
