Surprise ! Surprise ! Saddam Hussein Sentenced to Death, a brief comment by Paul V. Rafferty

Saddam Hussein, the strongman dictator who held Iraq together under a secular regime, until his overthrow by the United States and some of its allies, has been found guilty of “Crimes Against Humanity”, by an “Iraqi court” and sentenced to Death by Hanging.

This is regarded as a victory by U.S. “President” George W. Bush and will undoubtedly play a part in Tuesday’s Mid-Term Elections in the United States.

It will also probably be used by both major U.S. political parties, Republicans and Democrats, as justification for the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq.
The fact that since the fall of Saddam Hussein, Iraq itself has fallen into chaos will probably be ignored, for awhile, by much of the American Media – at least until after Tuesday’s elections.

Yes, of course, Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator. He was also an ally of the U.S. when he led the proxy war against Iran.

He also managed to give Iraq the longest period of stability, in its modern history.

Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq through Fear but then, Iraqis were united, in their fear of Saddam Hussein. Now they fear each other, for only Fear rules in Iraq.

A great “victory” for George W. Bush.
