For over three decades following World War II, Indochina was subjected to nearly continuous warfare, resulting primarily from the intrusion of external forces.
When those forces finally withdrew, they left behind a legacy of environmental destruction, widespread problems of public health and severe economic hardship, the effects of which will continue to haunt the region long into the future.
This traumatic history raises obvious questions of human ethics and international law that are still highly relevant today.
