WASHINGTON, D.C. - Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation's (VVAF) Information Management and Mine Action Programs (iMMAP) will soon be deploying a specialist to Lebanon to provide emergency relief services as conflict surmounts. The United Nations Joint Logistics Center (UNJLC) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have asked for iMMAPs immediate assistance in emergency information management services overseas as the agency plans relief operations.
The crisis is worsening rapidly as Israel warned civilians today to leave southern Lebanon as it prepares for a likely ground invasion to confront Hizbollah forces in that part of the country. iMMAP is being asked to send a spatial data coordinator to Lebanon to support the logistical coordination elements of the humanitarian response being triggered by recent hostilities.
iMMAP has the expertise to save lives and wants to respond immediately, but we need your generous contribution to help us do this. Because of iMMAP’s success in supporting U.N. relief operations in the aftermaths of the Asian tsunami and Pakistan earthquake, the group is being asked once again to lend its unique expertise in a rapidly evolving crisis.
