After almost a week of torrential rains, the weather finally cleared up in central and southern Taiwan on Sunday, enabling rescue teams to evacuate nearly 600 people stranded in flooded areas. Local farmers hoped that the break in the weather would stall their mounting losses due to the heavy rains, which as of press time on Sunday had grown to NT$621 million.
