NOTE: O'odham in Mexico were never informed about a hazardous waste dump now planned for their ceremonial area of Quitovac. The government of Mexico has already issued state and federal permits.
The Pima County Association of Governments says Mexico violated an international treaty by failing to inform the Arizona governments, as required because of its proximity to the U.S. border.

The dump is permitted for asbestos, industrial wastes and other waste. It is seeking a municipal permit now in Sonoyta to proceed.

Since a great deal of hazardous waste is crossing the border, the question now is whether the U.S. was behind this dump, following recent border meetings of Homeland Security and NAFTA officials. The other
question is who owns the company CEGIR? It was previously permitted under the name of La Choya (La Cholla) hazardous waste facility in Mexico.

Story follows, with apologies for the late posting
