The UN Refugee Agency urgently requires your help to provide assistance to 7200 refugees who have escaped the escalating violence in Colombia. We need to raise $69,000 by May 31, 2006 to help refugee women and children who have arrived with nothing, and face tremendous hardship in neighboring Ecuador. The UN Refugee Agency has a program to give them immediate assistance and help them get back on their feet.
Please visit http://www.unhcr.ca/colombia for more information on how you can make a difference in the lives of these victims. All online donations received during the month of May will be put towards our work in the region.

DARFUR is in the news again
The international community shares a growing concern about the welfare of Sudanese refugees in Chad and the internally displaced in Darfur, Sudan. It was almost two years ago when the first refugees—numbering over 200,000—fled to Chad, where they received immediate assistance from the UN Refugee Agency. However, an estimated 2 million remain in Sudan, unable to make the long jouney across the desert to Chad, yet constantly fearing further attacks by the janjaweed militia. In recent weeks, the situation has become more volatile. Indeed, in the last few days, international governments have pledged to help these victims. Visit the UNHCR International site for a recent update. http://www.unhcr.org/cgi-bin/texis/vtx/news/opendoc.htm?tbl=NEWS&id=445772944
