More than 50 people have been injured and 19 killed, in a suicide bomb attack on a public bus filled with schoolchildren and office workers, in Jerusalem. The killed victims range from an 11 year-old girl to a 72 year-old man.
"There was a huge explosion, smoke and pieces of the bus and body parts were flying everywhere. It was horrible," an eye-witness told Israeli radio.
Such an insane action will understandably be met with reprisal and the slender hopes of peace shattered. There can be no heroism in such an evil act against innocent civilians.
"The terrible sights we have seen here are stronger than any words," Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said. "It is interesting to know what kind of Palestinian state they mean. What Palestinian state?"
The Jerusalem Post reports that this was the first time Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had gone to the scene of a terrorist attack and thinks that his appearance may help to underscore Likud Party opposition to any form of a Palestinian State.
