Nagasaki Memorial Day

Article image 59 years ago, today, The United States dropped an Atomic Bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki – on the third day after Hiroshima.
The deliberate targeting of civilians is an obvious war crime but no one has ever been prosecuted for these atrocities.

This is largely due to the fact that the Geneva Conventions came into effect after the Second World War - but there are also those who believe that since the United States was the principal victor of World War II, there was no nation powerful enough to pursue the matter.
Although nuclear scientists and the U.S. Military strongly advised against the use of nuclear weapons against civilians, this did not deter the Truman Administration.

Nevertheless, throughout History, there have been attempts to limit the effects of war. Such efforts continue.
