Terry and Beverly Hicks are maintaining their struggle to secure the release of their 28-year-old son David, who has been detained by the US government at Guantanamo Bay for almost two years without charge and in violation of his basic democratic and legal rights. Terry Hicks recently visited Pakistan, Afghanistan and the US to gather evidence about David’s arrest and detention and to meet with American lawyers.
Last month Terry and Beverly travelled from their home in South Australia to Sydney to participate in a public meeting called to discuss the plight of their son and Mamdouh Habib, the second Australian citizen held in the US military prison in Cuba. Maha Habib, Mamdouh’s wife, and lawyer Stephen Hopper were among the speakers who joined Terry Hicks in addressing the meeting. It was the first joint public appearance by the Hicks and Habib families. (See below.)
