There’s an old saying that “Truth is the first casualty of war.” Now that the United States is engaged in a never-ending war against a concept –“terrorism” – we see the old saying confirmed, as U.S. President Bush continues to obfuscate the fact that the invasion and continuing occupation of Iraq is entirely illegal, by any standard of international Law.
Meanwhile, the United Nations continues to ignore this, perhaps in fear of losing support from its paymaster, as the Security Council continues its feeble debate as to how to extricate the U.S. from the quagmire it has made of Iraq, after 13 years of sanctions, bombings and invasion.

The League of Arab States continues its own courtship with the United States and offers no inter-Arab solution, content to allow Western nations to determine the future of the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International continues to hold us all to account for our overwhelming hypocrisy, in even considering that we still believe in Human Rights and International Law, as our leaders cower behind the curtains of a so-called “War on Terrorism”.
Terrorism is simply a tactic used by individuals, governments and other groups to intimidate their opponents. National and International Law is designed to prevent such actions.
